  1. Blogging is becoming a phenomenon. It is a personal way of sharing ideas and information on the web. Blogs are impacting mass media in a large way. They are a way of having a conversation with the reader. Blogs are different than a formal, edited, and revised paper which gives statistics and research to the reader; instead, they offer the writer’s concerns and thoughts. It is a personal way of writing via the web. http://spunkygidget.com/2007/06/the-impact-of-blogs-on-mass-media/ states, “As further evidence of the continuing maturation of the Blogosphere”, Technorati’s CEO, Dave Sifry, reports that 22 of the Top 100 Web sites are blogs, 9 of those being in the Top 50 (Q4 2007). He goes on to say that “Blogs continue to become more and more viable news and information outlets.” Blogs have made their way into our world today and are becoming a huge hit. They are a powerful form of writing that are having a great impact on our world.

  2. Blogging has become one of the most popular ways of communication in the world. Anyone with access to the internet can make a blog. Blogging has given the concept of the right to free speech a new meaning. Now not only can professional news writers put content and opinions out to the public but so can the average person. One of the most popular places to make and see blogs is at blogspot.com -http://blogsofnote.blogspot.com/-. Blogs have also become very controversial and sometimes harmful. For example, according to http://spunkygidget.com/2007/06/the-impact-of-blogs-on-mass-media/ when very popular technology blog posted that the iphone and the new OS “Leopard” were going to be delayed, “within six minutes of the report Apple’s market capitalization suffered a devastating hit of four billion dollars where many investors lost staggering amounts of money”. This shows that blog have become a huge part of mass media and society.

    BLOGGING CREATES UNLIMITED CITIZEN JOURNALISTS

    By Sheri Knutson

Freedom of speech and Internet access has allowed citizens endless opportunity to blog opinions.

Motive and credibility need to be considered when viewing blog content.

As noted in Modern Media Writing text book by Wilber and Miller, writers learned to use
blogging as a way to increase business/revenue via hyperlinks.

Blogging in business offers positive and negative results, according to “Content
Marketing Tactics: Business Blogging Pros, Cons, Best Practices & Brand Doing,” posted at
http://www.toprankblog.com/2013/05/business-blogging/. This article reports challenges as:

    • Time consuming.

    • Requires publisher mindset.

    • Requires organization, planning, and editorial control.

    • Creative and fresh content poses challenge.

According to online article “The Impact of Blogs on Mass Media,” at
    http://spunkygidget.com/2007/06/the-impact-of-blogs-on-mass-media/, “Blogs are journals, not
sites,” and need to be considered in this context.

Blogs are not facts – merely one person’s opinion.

  5. “To influence and reach the mainstream media is a relatively new mode of the expression of free speech—truly free speech (Glass, 2007)”.
Blogging became an efficient medium that every readers have the ability to reach, communicate and respond on it anytime. Readers are allowed to respond and support the following incomplete facts on the articles. It became a strength through building some strong facts from readers’ response. For years, it became controversial because every readers became a journalist through responding on every articles they read. In every words that they responded, it became a source, which could tell a story out of it. Puzzling every response, it gives a thorough facts for the article that they followed and responded with. From a simple thought, it became an important information that gives a public awareness to individuals, not only for those who read and responded on the article but to those who listened to the people who talk about it. This became a part of every lives.

Blogging is the future of News, whether it's purposeful or not. Blogging is instantaneous as well as interactive and for everyone. Anyone with access to a computer and an Internet cafe can make a blog, keep up with things going on around them as well as informing their readers what is going on. Online Newspapers are much like blogs allowing their subscribers to post comments and be commented back to by others, much like a forum or liveblog. Blogging has completely taken over how we view the news as well as become one of the most powerful forms of media of our time. It has become one of the most powerful forms of media because of it’s popularity online as well as off, people often look to blogs for advice in many things including parenting, purchasing gifts, and even who to vote for. The blog is the future.

  7. Is it possible to ruin a company with a predominantly good rating over one incident? Blogging is just another form of social media in which people regard journals as news. Fact rather than fiction. As long as it sounds intelligent or believable people will accept it for truth much like Wikipedia. A lot of harm can be done because of this but also a lot of good. Blogging is just another tool. It can be used to illuminate just as much as it can to destroy. As the “watchdog’s watchdog” as it is called on http://spunkygidget.com/2007/06/the-impact-of-blogs-on-mass-media/ it is a powerful way to inform or warn people of misdeeds or potential hazards.

  8. I feel as though blogging has lead to many Americans not only identifying with many of the bloggers online, but has lead us away from the professional media. With many of the professional media even if confined to only the journalism field is becoming less prominent. The blog http://spunkygidget.com/2007/06/the-impact-of-blogs-on-mass-media/ states that there are "1.5 million posts per day, or 17 posts per second." There really is a new movement, and with so much "news" filling up our news, how are we supposed to know what's true?

  9. Blogs can be both newsworthy and or journals. As Angela Glass referenced in her blog http://spunkygidget.com/2007/06/the-impact-of-blogs-on-mass-media/ the sites are a persons journal spoken to the world awaiting a response. The majority of bloggers are having a conversation with the world more so than news-writing. But there are also bloggers. like her self, who do the research and list the references and bring more to the internet than just an opinion. Blogs can bring another view to a story like http://thepioneerwoman.com. This blog started off as a women who moved from city life to country life and started blogging about it. She brought a new view to the world about life on the farm and it turned into a TV production, books and more. When done well blogs can be much more than a journal, conversation or just idle chatter.

  10. It comes as no surprise that blogs have become a new form of news media. They are online journals that have become the source of information and are a mixture of personal opinion and research. As blogger, Angela Glass, states, “blogging is a very powerful form of communication having great impact on society, government, business and the mass media.” Glass uses her blog to enlighten other users of the impact of blogs on society. Blogs like this one of Glass’ (http://spunkygidget.com/2007/06/the-impact-of-blogs-on-mass-media/), have been educational in the way of informing of how blogs can be used to effect society’s political views, business initiatives, and mass media coverage. Blogs are also a great way to get people more involved with areas of government, business, and mass media.

  11. There are countless blogs that litter the four corners internet. A blog is a form of personal internet journaling where people go to empty their thoughts and opinions on varying things such as politics, social events and whatever ones heart desires. People can respond and interact with the blogger through e-mails and comments, or even post thoughts down in their own blog. Technorati.com reports in their “The state of the living web” that they are tracking 70 million weblogs with approximately 120,000 new ones being created each day, now that is a lot of people writing out in the blogosphere.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Blogging is pretty much a journal or diary that everyone and anyone can read, not just the writer. They are a person’s personal opinion and they are not always accurate facts. Blogs put people in control whether they know it at the time or not. Depending on the writer’s views and what they are saying, they could have a positive or negative impact on the subject at hand. The readers of blogs more than likely take them seriously or might even look to the writer for guidance so if the writer is talking bad about a product then the readers are more likely to not support that brand or product. Everything on the internet travels extremely fast and to billions of people around the world. Blogging wisely is very important.

    ReplyDelete
  13. In today’s world, most people read stories, articles, and many other resources online as it is much faster and much more convenient. They can get viewpoints and opinions from people not only in their own community, but also from people across the world. This is no surprise that blogging is becoming popular and that it will continue to grow. This can be seen through younger generations. Many kids are far more comfortable typing, using i-phones, and other types of technology on a daily basis and their brains are trained to do this (it becomes natural). In fact, studies show that allowing kids to type information results in them better remembering it. Knowing this, it can easily be seen why blogging is growing. Many people type faster than they write and their work can be shared to a vast audience. Rony Abovitz used his experiences to show that blogging is a wonderful example of freedom of speech. Many bloggers may be more confident behind a computer screen to say what is on their mind and they may feel more prepared to accept criticism.

  14. In this fast pace world of instant gravitation it’s no wonder why people have gravitated towards reading blogs and taking that for fact. In this younger generation everything is at a faster speed. Which means that typically when needed a reliable source it’s often found that instead of going to a news site the person goes to a blog post and uses that as their research. However although the internet is an amazing place to find research and to get that instant gravitation it can also be very misleading. Blogging is a cool tool to have to read up on things that can be read quickly so the rush appeal is there but you can also have the more in depth facts as well. Many blogs write to either spout their opinion or as a job. Either or blogging is an amazing tool.

    ReplyDelete
  15. With technology growing more and more everyday many people refer to the internet than ever before. The internet not only provides information through articles and stories but allows people to express their opinions through blogs. Blogging is another great resource to share information or viewpoints on a topic that one never thought about before. This allows the reader to elaborate through writing about what the writer is really telling them. Not every blog is right or wrong or is provided with facts but allows people to comment and post about each other’s opinions. Blogging is like a review about a certain product to express your thoughts about something you like or do not like. Every opinion matters and so do blogs.

  16. Blogs give independent journalists a voice and a soapbox to stand on. But can all of this information be trusted?

During the "What Is News in 2014" discussion panel, Joe Tlustos, Director of Radio at SDPB, explained that more people are making quick cash to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars by publishing false news stories online.

This article also seems a bit dated by the fact that the "blogosphere" has, over the past five or six years, become totally oversaturated with low quality, poorly-written blogs. Popular lifestyle and fashion blogs that used to be more like online diaries are losing their personal touches and transforming into nothing more than sponsored shills for whatever company is giving them free stuff at the moment.

A recent Snowden leak, as reported by renowned journalist and blogger Glenn Greenwald, revealed that covert government agents infiltrate the internet by publishing blog posts to "manipulate, deceive, and destroy reputations".

No doubt internet users need to be more careful to not trust everything they read on the internet.

  17. Blogging is becoming more and more popular, especially for creatives. It’s a way to gain knowledge from others and express feelings or expertise on a particular subject. The most popular place for blogs to show up is on Pinterest. Individuals who are interested in blogging can gain knowledge from expert bloggers that appear on this social media site.

Blogs can be helpful when applying for a job – especially one in writing. It’s a way for applicants to stand out from the competition and impress the employer. Constantly updating and maintaining a blog shows hard work, motivation, dedication, and consistency. According to Doc Searl, the authors are not just creating content – they are speaking. A blog has a personality that can reflect the personality the applicant is trying to express to their employer.

    Response to Blog 130 words
This article is cited very well and gives the positive and negative sides that blogging can portray. Blogging is a way to find out information on certain subjects such as politics, art, food, anything and everything. One can feel free to write whatever they want even though the information may be false or far-fetched, it’s a way for people to express and get their word out to the public. Photographers use blogs to be more active with clients. Instead of just posting photos, they add stories to a group of photos to show that they have put thought and care and more artistry in their clients work rather than ‘just taking a picture’. Blogging can be useful if the person does their research and uses factual information.

  19. Blogging can have both a good and negative effect on Mass Communication. If someone is passionate about something, say Apple computers, they could blog about it and spread the word. It would give the Apple company free advertising. While on the other hand, if there was a big news story and someone’s blog post became popular, their opinions could be mistaken for pure fact and mislead a lot of people who see it before it’s debunked. It could be easy to also find what some people think of current events or politics, because they could possibly blog about the positive or negative of something.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Blogging has opened doors for all types of writers, amateur or professional. Today's blogger consists of a wide range of unique writers: from a 22 year old blogging about college and life experiences, to a retired Marine with a strong interest in politics. Blogs have given people with something to say, somewhere to say it. Whether or not the blog is read by others is irrelevant. The fact that people's opinions and life experiences are being shared with the world instantaneously is incredible. Educated people doing research for their own work know better than to rely on someone's personal blog for fact based research. That is not the issue with blogging. The issue with blogging is that it allows people to say things they wouldn't normally say face to face. It is creating communication barriers in many generations, especially the younger ones.

  21. Yes blogging has become a very popular form of communication and mass media. Almost every form of social media can be taken as a blog these days. Word spreads quickly over the internet which makes blogs great ways to spread news, causes, and Ideologies. However; this can potentially make it a very manipulative tool as well. Unlike traditional news sources where many try to maintain objective information, blogs are not like that. They are based on popularity rather than quality. This can make it easy to spread misinformation, and bias. The internet culture unfortunately lacks ethical codes seen in other forms of media. Where one news source might cover an unfortunate suicide, blogs and other forms of social media would be publicly ridiculing the person or even mocking them. Not that censorship is the solution--because it is not. Everyone has the right to express themselves through words.

    ReplyDelete
  22. The sheer amount of blogs is staggering. Sure, it is easy to say that there are 120,000 blogs created every day but that’s on the internet. With today’s technology and space on the internet, not many people think about the large amount of...well anything.
Abovitz has a very good point. With blogs, people can post and publish whatever they want where professional media has to censor what they post. Many media people will say that they don’t censor what they publish. Yes, they do. The media can only publish what the government LETS them publish. If the media wanted to go against the president in any way, they couldn’t. They would be shut down or worse. Blogs may be inaccurate at times but sometimes they get the REAL news out there. Blogging in powerful, purposeful and important.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Blogging has become a more and more available form of communication. With thousands new blogs being created everyday they have gained considerable influence on mass media. Just ask apple about the power of blogging after they lost a staggering 4 billion dollars in a mater of minutes due to what was posted in a blog. People have to careful with how they go about reading blogs because the people posting do not have to fact check and can write with a bias behind what they are writing. Blogs face the same problems the internet faces when it comes to the authenticity of the information that get posted to them. Readers will have to learn how to pick out the good and the bad information that gets posted.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Generally, blogs are just a journal – a journal that can be seen by millions of people. Most people understand that a blog is generally about the writer’s own opinions and experiences, and those readers take it for what it is. That being said, the popularity of creating and reading blogs is unsurprising. Before blogging came around, a person would have to write a book, or a letter-to-the-editor, or make a speech, or get published in some way, to make their voice and opinions known. Even then, the audience was much smaller. Now someone in Japan can read about Ree Drummond’s life as a rancher’s wife in Oklahoma, and maybe try out a few of her recipes. That’s pretty amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  25. With more people spending more time online the accessibility of sources such as blogs are becoming more common. When one of these blogs grow in popularity it also grows in power. An example of this would be with the late announcement of the "AppleGate" where the 'Leopard' OS was announced to be late in it's release. The multiple release of that information across numerous websites helped fuel the tidings that cost the company thousands in stock.
So while a blog can be used as a journal for some, many others benefit from sharing possibly important information with others. This is also a boon to society as a civilian with a phone at a point of interest as it plays out can put out the information faster then others that need to respond to it, although the telling could remain skewed.

    ReplyDelete
  26. As Glass states, blogging has become an effective tool for the democratization of media. Blogging provides a more personal evaluation of current events and trends. By providing personal, subjective views that the audience can connect with, bloggers have become more biased, but brutally honest news outlets. As we learned from our textbook, all bias should be eliminated from professional news media, but audiences like reading subjective material that they already agree with. Bias should be recognized by the audience and the author of the blog, and references and sources should always be provided.
Blogging also creates a sense of hyperlocality. Blogging about local events is easy and cheap (if not totally free), and provides insight into the events that regular Joes may not otherwise have had access to. Personal insight and perspective are the key elements blogs have to offer, and they have filled a definite niche in media today.

    ReplyDelete
  27. What about marketing in blogs? Could promotion of sponsored items in blogs become a rival for mass media?

Fashion blogging is tightly connected with marketing, for a few recent years. Business found a place between famous street fashion bloggers, who build their name in this industry showing off their style. Brands find this market much cheaper, because they don’t organize advertising, photoshoots, don’t pay for professional models and media. Bloggers do all that by themselves. And the followers find it attractive, seeing designer items on “real” people in “real” places.

The Blonde Salad was started in 2009 by law student Chiara Ferragni. Over last five years it became worldwide known source of the street style. Chiara gained followers showing off her fun, budget-friendly style. As the popularity grew, Chiara was discovered by various designers and started promoting their products. Branding is the main source of The Blonde Salad today.

Brands are looking forward to contribute with bloggers. But none self-respected fashion blogger is likely to be seen with the same clothing more than once. There is no sustainability for advertising, which can be easily found in the traditional mass media.

Marketing in blogs is a cheap and easy field. But it will never replace the advertising in media.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Blogs have become an important piece of media by instantly personalizing someone's opinion and their views on any given subject, at any time anywhere in the world.

Blogs are important because of how personalized they are. As mentioned in Spunky Gidget's blog post (http://spunkygidget.com/2007/06/07/the-impact-of-blogs-on-mass-media/), blogs are a means to be more personalized. There is one specific way to write about something formally, and then there are blogs which allow people to be more humanized, with less standards and rules.

This can also present some problems, as it can introduce things that are not accurate, or true. This would still require the professionalism of news writers, to double check the accuracy of any given blog.

This leads to most popular news sites, such as CNN.com, NBC.com and many more to have their own section, dedicated to blogging.

Blogging is very useful when it comes to sharing information, not just in writing but also with photos, and stories from personal experiences. The future of blogging will only continue to grow.

  29. Blogging is essentially an opinion editorial section of a newspaper that is updated more frequently.
They give the person with the opinion their own deadline and freedom to say whatever they want. So it could be said that a blog is much better than an opinion editorial. In the text, it talks about internet writing being concise, but blogs appear to have the freedom to be as long as they want and can still keep the reader interested.
Blogging is also important for businesses, it helps create in internet presence for small businesses, and even for large companies. According to Mandy McEwan, a blogger featured in an article by the Huffington post (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/loolwa-khazzoom/get-your-blog-on-the-impo_b_4499380.html), blogging can help create an expert identity for you.

Moreover, as the link says ““fifth estate”—those watching the watchdog.”. Media also makes mistakes and bloggers can help to find the real truth. It is also good promoting way, people can frankly speak their minds about products, what they like and don’t like. Although, there are so many blogs and posts, it is getting harder and harder to follow major posts and opinions even about one topic. Source says “blogs produce 1.5 million posts per day, or 17 posts per second.” And according to it these were statistics in 2007, which leads to conclusion that now these numbers are even bigger.

  33. What would we do without blogs? Blogging is great because of the flexibility and functionality that it is, which makes it one of the most popular and useful tools on the internet today. Blogs can essentially be a portfolio of writing skills, topical writing, an opinion editorial center, advertisement, a personal or published diary, the options are endless. Possibly the most important tool to use in blogging is linking. Because of the reach of blogs, linking is a great way to increase audiences to get more page views, which is the desired outcome of blogging.

  34. Blogging truly is the future of written media. In a non-professional sense, it allows the everyday citizen to become an amateur journalist and critic by giving them the ability to spread their ideas and opinions with the world. This is a significant step up from the printing your personal political manifesto at Kinko’s every week and distributing it to your comrades. In a more professional sense, is allows commercial bloggers to share their views immediately with their audience. What’s most interesting with blogs is how effective they actually can be. As the article mentions Rathergate and the bloggers response to criticism of then President Bush, it proves that amateur bloggers actually can have a significant impact on real world events.

It also allows them to connect to others who may have the same thought or completely different through another blog, comments, or even emails. If someone finds another's blog to be interesting, they can follow them and read their blog weekly or even daily. According to Doc Searls', blogs are written and not built as well as the most interesting blogs are written daily and come from the heart. Even though blogs were invented around 1994 and have been around for a while, they are becoming more popular every day. Blogging is a great way for communicating and can impact society just like any media can.

Blogging can take so many angles at something and it can also be a powerful thing expressing how people view things and their voices in a way are heard. The media also doesn’t get the facts right and that is why blogging becomes a help, bloggers can help get the facts and stories straighten out without trying to make the media look bad. Being able to hyperlink is also important while blogging, the audience wants to be able to find more information on stuff but, can’t if all the blog is just words and doesn’t expound on it at all.

Blogging started a while ago but is now spreading like wildfire. It is a way that people can get their ideas out to others and share information they find interesting on the internet. Not only can people share their thoughts but other viewers can add their comments about the blog to the author. Formal papers are edited and critiqued by the company of which the writer is employed so that the articles are accurate, but blogs are not edited. Blogs are posted by one individual author and Blogs “continue to become more and more viable news and information outlets” as stated by Technorati’s CEO, Dave Stifry. He continues and reports that 22 of the Top 100 Websites are blogs and of those there are 9 in the Top 50. Blogs are getting more popular as forms of writing as time goes on. Blogging has been one of the best things that have came out in the media world. Blogs have allowed people to take many different angles on issues and be able to express them to people that may have the same view and different views. There are a variety of different blog sites that allow the average person to tune into anytime they want, that update as much as a daily basis. The people that tune into these blogs are able to write comments to the authors of these blogs and they are able to get instant feed back for input from anyone. The authors of these blogs are able to put hyperlinks right into their posts, so that the viewer can find out more information on that particular subject just with a simple click. Blogs are a matter of the future and something that all should know.

In as much as this is true, bloggers are the newly established “fifth estate”—those watching the watchdog." Blog changed lives with information. People can live with the information more casually. The blog is not professional by saying in the different word because there are many possibility to be a blogger even though the person is not the professional. According to Modern Writing, blogs are where opinions are taken more seriously by reader. This is the reason why the Interent is untrustworthy and has prevented a functional democratic society.

Spunky Gidget makes reference to how influencial blogging is to the general public. She states blogs have swayed public opinion on serious issues because of the immediacy of blogging in the Blogoshere.

Blogs are still relevant and one can find a blog on virtually any subject as stated in the article. Blogs have shifted to more of information gathering, quiz and video sights. The main example of a popular blog-ish sight is Buzz Feed. This link http://www.buzzfeed.com/ericafutterman/whats-your-name-man-alexander-hamilton#.cnaz7mkJA is a prime example of media convergence. It has a video of a preview of a play and it also include an interesting blog section. This would be considered more of a blog because besides celebrity occurrences, these writers write about anything and everything. This sight has sections for entertainment, politics, humor and so much more. This sight is modern blogging. It mirrors the old simple text style but caters to the consumer that consumes multiple forms of media.

  45. Blogging is one of the biggest upcoming forms of media in the 21st century so far. Blogs are personal and are often shared and seen by strangers to the actual blogger. Specific topics are typically the heart of a blog, such as something as strange as cheese modeling or as popular as soccer. Technorati's CEO Dave Sifry reported that 9 of the 50 top sites are blogging sites. Blogging could be viewed as virtual diaries that can be interacted with and viewed by anyone in the Internet world that share your particular interests, hobbies, music, occupation, etc. Facebook is essentially a blog of just your friends and families current whereabouts, current activities and feelings.

  46. Blogs are a major influence in the 21st century. Being able to reach millions or even billions of people at the speed of light is something that is redefining what it means to be a human being on planet earth. Through the internet anyone that can gain a following by writing a blog gains the power of an elected official or a celebrity. This has not happened before in history and is changing every society that has access to electricity. Even older forms, of communication, including speech are being replaced by texting and blogs. Through convergence newspapers and television are working with the internet. In the future it will just be the internet. Blog writers can be published instantly and through sites like (USA.com) anyone can send in a comment and instantly be published to.

  47. The blog and its cousin, the vlog (video blog) is an expression of the people. This internet medium is a way for angsty teens to divulge their frustrations, soccer moms to share experiences with others around the world in similar situations, college students to fulfill assignments ;). Journalling has been in use for centuries, but blogging took journalling to the masses, taking what was once private to the public’s eye. It’s evolution has exploded in popularity and use.

Websites like Twitter have created new blogging platforms in the form of the micro blog. The micro blog is a simple statement in 140 characters or less that is often shared with a propensity to go viral. Vine is another excellent example of the evolution of the blog. It functions as a micro blog, but with looping videos lasting just seconds. Many young people see these platforms as ways to express and share their situations. Blogging has certainly changed our communication landscape.

  48. Social media have certainly expanded the horizons of mass communication. Users of these sites are able to communicate with a global audience instantaneously. But this ability of social media is an extremely powerful tool, and has been observed in action for years. The fears and doubts associated with social media can be understood. After all, Spunky Gidget tells time and again how blogs were able to influence businesses and stock markets in a matter of minutes, or spark intense political discussion. Media have always been influential powers in the world, educating their subscribers in all subjects. But the immediacy and customization of social media make it a force to be reckoned with.

  49. The use of personal blogs have become a new voice for the public. An average citizen may not be able to post what they think is important on a notable news site, such as CNN. What they can do is take the initiative to write their true opinions on blog sites. On these sites other informed bloggers can read it and build it up even further with their responses. Spunky Gidget pointed out in their post at http://spunkygidget.com/2007/06/07/the-impact-of-blogs-on-mass-media/ how much power these blog voices have by incidences such as “AppleGate”. As their quote from Michael Arrington, of TechCrunch.com, states, “big blogs now have an incredible amount of power to move information quickly, and influence people more broadly than ever.” If everyone blogged about the issues that concerned them then blogging could potentially become more productive than processes such as voting.

  50. The development of blogging entering the area of mass media has changed how news and ideas in general can spread. This is a really good and powerful development that can also have very negative effects if used incorrectly. Its great to see that power has been put into the peoples hands so that the mass can have a voice back against a big machine of news and government, keeping it from overpowering its people. However, as shown through the “Applegate” issue outlined in spunkygidget’s article “The impact of blogs on mass media” the voice of a mass of people can really change a lot. http://spunkygidget.com/2007/06/the-impact-of-blogs-on-mass-media/ So, it’s important that bloggers keep in mind how much power they truly have. It’s also important that society doesn’t take everything bloggers say as truth but sees them as unprofessional opinions. As Michael Arrington said in his article about Applegate, “With power comes responsibility.” http://techcrunch.com/2007/05/17/applegate/

  51. Blogging is a new form of sharing information, thoughts, and ideas. It is often used in positive ways and just like anything else has its flaws. While it is gaining popularity in the masses wrong information is bound to be conveyed by to the audience. Blogs may not have thoroughly researched the topic to the depths that a professional news writer is able to. In the case study of “Dell Hell” you see how powerful and influential blogs have become in our lives. When a blogger that has a strong presence on the internet vocalizes an opinion it influences his/her readers and their decision making.

  52. Blogging is part of the world of modern technology and is here to stay. I've seen blogs that deal with political, religious, and personal issues and those that follow the everyday life of average people doing activities like eating breakfast and watching a film. With the rapid rate of expansion in the digital age, it is important to note that there are blogs that reflect the personal opinions of individuals as well. The reader should realize that some statements and ideas are not true, much like much of the stuff on the internet. But blogs can be good tools for a business or media outlet for the connection to their customers or listeners/viewers/readers. On the site http://spunkygidget.com/2007/06/the-impact-of-blogs-on-mass-media/, it is noted that consumers of mass media can communicate with the professionals in that medium instantly. The comments section can be less that civil many times, but it allows another avenue for news tips, pictures, or accounts to be added to the mass media's content. Blogs are here to stay.

  54. Blogs have allowed wide ranges of people that have no credibility or have a lot of credibility. Bloggers don't have to worry about standards like AP Style and it makes it easier for them to express their opinions or state facts. While blogging is one of the simplest ways of sharing news, it is not as reliable as other news sources, like newspapers. However, blogging can be used as a stepping stone to move on to better and more professional news sources. As blogging grows, online communication will continue to increase, and sharing news will be more common across the globe.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Blogging has changed the way media works. They have been influencing media from the time they were first created because of the ability of instantaneous responses to any and everything. A large number of main stream media looks at blogging as a jock and not worthy of news. But the common observer is more likely to believe a blog post rather than the news because most of the time you know where the bloggers biases lay. You don't always know with the media. Blogging has evolved from just blogging to facebook, tumblr, twitter, and any of the other sites we use to document our lives. This has affected the media and their ability to lie and change facts. It has also changed responses to how companies work and relate to their customers. All of these things have become more personal and more global. It has almost become a form of checks and balances.

  56. Blogging has continued to develop over the years and now has merged into the mass media world. Blogs allow individuals to freely post their opinions and views on any topic imaginable, at any time, from almost anywhere. With these advantages bloggers are constantly posting new material for the world to read. Sources stated in 2007 “blogs produce 1.5 million posts per day, or 17 posts per second.” This leads us to believe that these numbers will continued to grow over time.

Blogs provide the means to be more personalized with your writing. They provide a more flexible format for writers to be more personable as they write, therefor some writers may tend to follow less standards of professional writing. However, blogs also provide a platform for writers to practice and improve their writing as well, allowing them to experiment with different styles of writing.

With this all in mind one must remember that it is crucial for readers to understand that not all blog materials is creatable. Some bloggers strictly may be posting on personal experiences and opinions with no research to back their material. Whereas other writers may spend time forming a post based around research and proven facts. Therefore, as a reader we must pay attention to the material read and keep this is mind whenever referring to blog material.

  57. Modern journalism has learned to incorporate blogging as a source of sending messages to the audience at large. Competing with the blogosphere would be detrimental to the news industry. According to this post (http://spunkygidget.com/2007/06/07/the-impact-of-blogs-on-mass-media/), in 2007 1.4 new blogs were created each second. The audience now has an overwhelming amount of choices when it comes to what they read and how they obtain their news on the internet. Keeping up to date, essential, respectable and adapting to new technology are all recommendations listed in this textbook (http://www.worldcat.org/title/modern-media-writing/oclc/51685246) for keeping the news industry in business.

While the news industry must keep up to date, the audience must also educate themselves on how they are receiving their information. Are they reading a personal blog or a respected news source? News writers must set themselves apart from an average blogger and write well researched, edited and unbiased work to keep readership.

  58. The internet is a powerful tool and has opened up a new platform for writers to be heard. Blogging has been a popular form of journaling for a few years. The article is from 2007. All things technology related change within a matter of months. Social media, though not a long of text as blogs, allows anyone to add input through comments and statuses. Social media could perhaps be more accessible than a blogging site. But the use of the internet tends to wrap around itself so if one has a blog they can build a Facebook to promote the blog or the other way around. Blogs have sparked a lot of younger peoples’ interests as one can now be paid to write or include advertisements on their blogs. Blogs are very influential so it makes sense that bloggers are getting paid.

  60. Blogging on the internet has become a new form of journalism. It has progressively grown larger over the years with internet becoming more accessible and many people wanting to voice their opinions. With blogging, ordinary people can share their opinions on anything they want, whenever they choose to do so. Sources showed that, “approximately 120,000 new ones being created each day factoring out to about 1.4 new blogs every second.” With these numbers, blogging will only continue to grow larger. Blogging is a more personalized form of writing. These writers may not follow standard writing rules, but it makes the reader able to connect with the author on a more personal level. Blogs must be updated often by the author considering it is .a journal or diary on the internet. People who blog want their voice to be heard, and they have the opportunity to connect with thousands of people each day. Blogging is influential and its popularity is continuously growing.

  61. It is true as said in the article that blogs are a new medium of communication, as a matter of fact they are the new medium. Blogging creates an entirely new sense of communication and a sense of community. Blogs are meant to have more of a sense of personalization. Meaning, there are rarely specific guidelines to follow to create a blog or to post. Since blogs are so “personal”, many say this is where they found their true voice. As blogging increases, so does communication, and maybe that’s what this world needs. As stated in the article, anyone with internet accessibility is able to blog or read blogs. Blogging is the new form of communication and it’s safe to say that it is here to stay.

  63. The basics for good journalism in traditional media is still good and encouraged in digital media. Following the rules of journalism and keeping it tight and concise will continue to build your credibility as a journalist. Bloggers and other web writers need to pull together elements of a story from the more traditional medias. In the chapter 10 of the textbook, it talks about learning html even though that has changed some over the years with website building sources. According to the textbook as well it states the use of bullet points which in a current article from the Huffington Post that is now coming out favor.

The use of concise writing is important but so is keeping an eye for design to keep your audience’s attention. According to the textbook it is important to keep it brief and the important information at the top. Keeping an eye for layout and design would be useful in the situation of keeping a reader’s attention.

  64. Digital media are the present and future of media all together. Blogging is another form making its debut in the mid 1990's and booming in this day and age. With the internet as accessible as it is to everyone, people gain access to articles, sites, blogs and much more at the touch of a screen. Blogging grants a source of opinionated communication to those who seek out topics worth blogging about. The Impact of Blogs on Mass Media chooses to discuss how blogs have a huge impact on the concept of free speech on the web. Ideally, blogs have such a strong impact on media that they often sway opinions of others because they have little to no limits. In chapter 10 of the class text it discusses how anyone can 'do it yourself,' on page 213. Although this is a great strength of the web, it is a weakness as well. The faults consist of untrue information and information that is not written well which make the concepts unclear to the reader.

Overall, the use of blogging is very convenient and used as a form of media to relate opinions and thoughts. Wether it be good journalism or bad, that is left in the fingertips of those typing.

  66. Blogging has become very popular and has opened many doors for numerous writers. A blog is sometimes referred to as a frequently updated online personal journal or diary. Blogs allow people to write freely and express themselves in a non-formal way. They are a place where writers can write their thoughts and passions without the fear of being judged. According to “Blog Basics” it states that a diverse kind of people post every day. Once the haven of technical know-it-alls, blogging has suddenly caught-on as a legitimate hobby and has entered the mainstream.

Every day millions of people, some of whom have no technical ability whatsoever, write on their blogs. According to our text book “Modern Media Writing” it gives several tips and advice to media writers who are beginning or are advanced writers for the Internet. Such as, web pages should use employ scannable text- text that is easy to browse, web pages should use bullet lists, and web pages should use meaningful subheadings etc.

Blogging is continually growing and this leads to the online communication to grow even more. With this put in place, the news, people’s voices, and communication will grow rapidly and globally.

Blogging is a fast way for people to update their thoughts and opinions and a fast way for their followers to be able to see the original bloggers ideas. According to (http://spunkygidget.com/2007/06/07/the-impact-of-blogs-on-mass-media/), "blogging is a very powerful form of communication having great impact on society, government, business and the mass media." Blogs have great impact on society, government, business, and the mass media because of the expression free speech they get.

Blogs can impact businesses tremendously by either helping the business gain or lose money. Almost anyone can blog and it’s free, but there are still rules behind what makes a blog good. The article mentioned that blogging is like a form of communication. The blogger posts their opinions or views on a topic and people are free to comment.

A blog post may not be as impactful if certain guidelines aren’t followed. Chapter 10 said that web pages should be easy to browse, should have meaningful subheadings, and should follow an inverted pyramid structure.

Companies can take advantage of blogging by using Convergence. Chapter 10 also stated that adding more outlets for news sources—such as blogging—can increase their audience.

Blogs express, with a specific voice and certain tone. They are the electronic conversation at the coffee shop.

Blogs are allowed to portray emotion and sensitivity. Unlike its other news counter parts like hard news and feature stories, they are allowed to convey a strong feeling. This alone is what impacts readers the most, it's why they have gained so much popularity within the journaling world.

The ability to speak freely is attractive to many writers.

According to https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-healthy-type/ blogging has become such a well known form of journalism because it is said to be 'therapeutic.'

Blogging allows the writer, or anyone, to inspire. Blogging is the new prescription for people with stuffed minds.

"Blogging is a physiological outlet for many people," said Jessica Wapner. Wapner is a journalists for the website Scientific American.

Wagner said that blogging is so popular because it is a healing process as well it encourages communication. The new blogosphere has enabled people to connect to one another in a variety of ways, and are now able to witness one another expressions.

Blogging is a reliable form of communication in todays world, whether that be news of politics, family reunions or the latest Starbucks coffee cup design- blogs provide a safe and easy way for people to portray their opinions and others to respond. Blogging is a way of speaking and interacting in conversation. Topics cover politics, international events, and social media. It can be used as a way for individuals to express their opinion and write on the topics they feel are the most important.

Blogs are becoming more and more widespread. Around 120,000 new blogs are created and posted every day. This indicates that blogs are taking over the web and are becoming more preferred over news websites.

Through the use of blogs individuals can challenge controversial topics and create an impact through the use of free speech. The balance of power is shifted from corporate media to the hands of blogging citizens. Bloggers have established their own culture and a place in the news and media.

Today blogging is still as powerful as it was in 2007 - http://spunkygidget.com/2007/06/07/the-impact-of-blogs-on-mass-media/ - and it is still an excellent example of the internet's freedom of speech. Although blogging is a wonderful tool for modern day journaling, sharing information, and for businesses, it is not as practical as it was nine years ago.

Today we have social media and smart devices that together send us notifications to us in seconds. There are many similarities to blogging and social media website, and it is those similarities that keep blogging alive.

Talking specifically about the publishing power of blogs, that power will not stay as mighty with the innovation of the internet. Unless "bloggers" have a large follow count their information updates or negative reviews about trending topics will no longer change the public's opinions the same way that social media website do.

Blogging will remain to be a great journaling method for many years, but unless it evolves with the habits and needs of tech users, it won't have the same impact on mass media.

  74. I would consider blogs outdated. I didn’t think they were a big thing today, because of the social media sites.

In 2007, however, according to http://spunkygidget.com/2007/06/07/the-impact-of-blogs-on-mass-media/, 22 of the top 100 web sites are blogs, 9 of those being in the top 50. Doc Searls’ says that “Blogs are journals, not sites. They are written, not built.”

Blogs are basically just a way people can express their opinions and allow millions of people to see them. The problem with blogs today is that numerous social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, etc. allow users to do the same thing.

According to https://gigaom.com/2015/01/31/blogging-is-very-much-alive-we-just-call-it-something-else-now/, “The desire to share your thoughts or links or commentary with the world lives on, and in fact it is far more widespread and available that it ever was.”

Blogging will continue, but social media sites will continue to be more popular.

  75. Although blogging is a relatively new medium for journalism, the growth of the industry has been expansive. With this entire new industry came new job opportunities, especially for people struggling with a mainstream job or have the desire to voice their opinion through writing.
Students, single mothers, nomads, artists, and many others have all found a voice in the world through social media and blogging. Blogging allows anyone to express their ideas through words. Although according to Forbes (https://www.forbes.com/sites/nextavenue/2015/08/11/how-to-make-money-as-a-blogger/#64f9843e1ee9), many bloggers can’t make a living, companies often look for frequently-visited sites to place ads that could earn money.
According to http://spunkygidget.com/2007/06/07/the-impact-of-blogs-on-mass-media/, blogging is the ‘fifth estate’, or the watchdogs of the watchdogs.
Blogging also allows the term 'citizen journalism' to take on a new meaning. Real people with real experiences have the chance to publicize their knowledge.
Even more recently, bloggers have been utilizing all forms of social media to promote their blogs and what they stand for. According to http://blog.marketo.com/2015/01/how-to-integrate-social-media-and-blogging-from-the-art-of-social-media.html, social media and blogging complement each other.

I think that to really get up to date information, an article a little more recent would be beneficial. However, according to spunkygidget (http://spunkygidget.com/2007/06/07/the-impact-of-blogs-on-mass-media/) blogging is a media in which is up and coming. I do believe that there should be more of an emphasis on blogs but I also think it is hard because people skim through information so it is hard to even put in the time to appreciate a well written blog post.

Blogging has definitely grown over the years and according to thenextweb (https://thenextweb.com/insider/2016/12/26/the-state-of-blogging-for-2017/#.tnw_oMQgcoYS) to be a blogger you have to be at the top of your game if you want success. It is 2017 and to make a job out of an online media source research will definitely have to be made.

Removing the job aspect of blogging I believe everyone should blog because it keeps the mind going and everyone relates to people differently and while there may be a well written blog out there, the way you write can resonate with someone else in a completely different way to help them through a situation similar to yours.

Blogs are a powerful tool when it comes to giving the everyday person a voice for others to see. It is a good combination between social media and the opinion editorial section of a newspaper.

According to (http://spunkygidget.com/2007/06/07/the-impact-of-blogs-on-mass-media/) there are 1.5 million new blog posts every day. Which is good news for the mass comm world. Blogs can be a good way to reach a mass audience. Exponentially when there is something that needs to reach a very specific target market.

(http://www.mediacenterimac.com/blog-medium-of-mass-communication/) says that blogs have changed the way people hear news and get messages out to the mass audience. In the past only those who worked for newspapers and TV stations could get access to the masses but with the creation of blogs it now puts that ability into the hands of the common person.

  81. While blogs are a relatively new platform they have a wide spread affect as well as audience. They have continued to grow since they first gained popularity and have become much more than they first were.

Blogging requires in depth knowledge on a subject and a strong voice to carry the message. According to http://spunkygidget.com/2007/06/07/the-impact-of-blogs-on-mass-media/ blogs have had a large impact on society, government, business and the mass media as well as playing a role in the democratization of media.

I think the audience for blogs is not now what is use to be, with the speed and growth of social media there are so many other outlets for discussions. However blogs have still maintained a certain level of popularity and are well known among most and remain an effective way to reach mass media.

Blogging opens up discussion to many topics and is often used in helping new journalist land jobs. Blogging also gives writers a chance to show their skill of expanding knowledge to the uneducated.

Blogging has many affects on journalism. Free lancing as a journalist is common, and blogging allows you to show off your work to many different types of people. CNN said that blogging is a good way to find jobs in todays society (http://www.cnn.com/2009/LIVING/worklife/08/03/cb.blogging.good.for.career/). 83. Blogging has now become a major part of marketing and tool for corporations. Once seen only as people pouring their opinions online has now grown into a new industry for companies to advertise and appeal to their loyal and potential customers.

Companies now will hire on people to post about their products and just blog their opinions about the product, the store, their experience, or anything else. This is just to be able to build constructive feedback and get your business some online visibility. This is called business blogging according to https://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/what-is-business-blogging-faqs-ht#sm.001r8cbxc1cv0f8y11vhgx2v5k1ww.

Business blogging allows for companies to get its image exposed and discovered on social media. Once it has been exposed on social media it makes it easier for others to share the content of the blog to others, thus getting its information out at a cheap and fast way.

According to http://spunkygidget.com/2007/06/07/the-impact-of-blogs-on-mass-media/, the simplest blog post can cost a company billions of dollars by just writing anything. Spunky Gidget discussed how Engadget, a technology blog, posted that a couple of Apple products would be delayed and then within six minutes of the blog post Apple took a hit of four billion dollars. This then shows the power of impact a simple blog has on a major corporation.

What was once seen as people just voicing their opinions, has now given power to the people to either make or break a corporation.

  84. Working with a hospitality business in South Dakota, our 15 properties each have their own website, Facebook page, and blog. Spunky Gidget leads their article with "Blogs are a new medium of communication which is accessible to anyone with the ability to use the Internet."

Our companies focus is building ORGANIC reach amongst our audiences. With blogs being accessible by anyone who has the ability to use the internet, they are a resourceful tool for building ROI without spending too much on advertisement and marketing costs.

Keeping blogs current and original have proven a difficult task with "1.4 new blogs every second" appearing on the internet for consumers to sift through. Be smart, set a goal, and effectively use blogs as a frugal resource to enhance a business.

  85. The act of blogging is becoming a habitual act for writers and creative minds worldwide. The simple procedures for starting a blog are quick, efficient, and effective. As soon as journalists begin their blogs, they gain a larger audience and suddenly become recognizable on a larger scale.

According to Ch.10 page 208 of Modern Media Writing, some journalists are learning that the blog is a way to increase their audience by creating links to their work while expounding on any number of topics- some of which do not fit the traditional definition of newsworthiness.

Blogs allow for creativity to seep out and not be contained within writing structures and restrictions. They open up the possibility of expression of ones self and allow writers to market themselves on a larger scale of uniqueness and creativity.

  86. Blogging has become a universal device for authors to communicate their thoughts and emotions. In many ways blogs have become a way for people to engage their audience in a conversational tone. Because bloggers update so often readers feel like they have a personal connection to the blogger.

For people that are journalist blogging allows them to be able to show their thoughts and opinions on topics that they have covered in their career. As journalists you are asked to not put your opinion or yourself into your work. But blogging allows these people to continue their writing career in a different light.

Blogging is a great way for people to express themselves. It gives people an opportunity to write creatively about their own interests. It also gives recognition and sponsorship to things that they write about.

  87. Blogging was and is the foundation of social media. As the linked article stated, it started as periodic personal writings from online and offline authors that spoke directly to the audience from the heart, rather than through the strict standards of writing.

As the Mass Comm text says on page 210, "convergence has the potential to become an accepted standard throughout journalism." What we can see in our society today is that that statement was more than true, as online sources have become pretty much the main means of journalism. With that being said, separate newspapers and television news sources have all but become obsolete, and those who haven't followed the guiding light that is online converged media have been left in the dust.

Blogging is huge for the public at large because anyone can do it and anyone can gain a following through it. Blogging has given a voice to everyone on the planet that can be heard by anyone on the planet, and while it's up for debate whether or not that's a good thing for society, it cannot be understated how the future of media will be shaped by it.

  88. As blogging began it was a new foundation of communication through the web. A rise in social media itself. The article makes note of the more casual and less strict writing method used in blogging. As a more open form of communicating opinions and other information, people have been able to speak of things from government politics to personal interests.

Going along with that, as the Modern Media Writing text states, "It used to be said that freedom of the press truly existed for only those who owned the press, but the Internet makes cyberspace available to anyone with access to a computer and a modem."

While it can still be negatively impactful, opinions are widely expressed through different media sites. News pages even gain options for commenting on stories and articles, allowing people to state their own input on a large scale.

A challenge to that though is while blogging is personal, stories that state information could be misinformed and biased. The text also states that, "much of what you find on the Internet is untrustworthy, since it may not have been professionally reported, written, or edited". Which is kind of the point of blogging? Everyone is able to take part in this blogging and most websites allow that option. People who wouldn't usually be able to have a voice in something important to them now have that ability.

  89. Blogging is the basis for all social media. All popular social media sites are based on individual's thoughts and words. both Twitter and Facebook were started with the idea of 'status updates' and what's going on in the individual's life, or how they feel about a certain issue. Blogging doesn't have to be about news, it doesn't have to be written by a journalist. Anyone and everyone can blog. And according to the article "Blogs are influential and they can be highly negative in their impact."

People listen to blogs because they're written by every day people. People they can trust, people they can relate too. As the book says on page 213 "the internet... enables any person with access to a computer and Web-page software to become [their] own publisher".

  90. Blogging is a useful tool when someone wants to expresses their opinion openly. In todays society, social media is the base for all bloggers. There are many different platforms for bloggers such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Yik Yak, Twitter, and Tumblr. Each blog changes depending on their focus. According to http://spunkygidget.com/2007/06/07/the-impact-of-blogs-on-mass-media/, "Blogs are a new medium of communication which is accessible to anyone with the ability to use the Internet". Anyone who is anyone can share their feelings online and even change peoples perceptions. This could be positive or negative depending how it is looked at. For example, if there is an issue with a certain brand, that could impact the brands sales.

Blogging is a very useful tool for companies and consumers, but is can also be harmful to both parties.

  91. The concept of a blog opened the door to countless innovations in our modern society. Consumers of information are no longer forced to simply take an advertisement at face value. Millions of people are able to share their own opinions about a variety of services.
If a person runs a blog based around movie reviews, how different is that blog when compared to any other source of opinion-based news? A blog can be just as influential as any given newspaper if an audience is willing to invest their interest and attention. According to Glass’ spunkygidget article, the trend of blogging is going in that direction. A popular blog can seem just as worthy as an actual news source.
Unfortunately, according to Modern Media Writing’s page 208, a majority of people often return to familiar news sources. An influential, yet misleading, blog could do a lot of damage and misinformation.

  92. Blogs have created a different kind of internet. In the article the 'Impact of blogs on mass media' says, "blogs are journals, not sites. They are written, not built." Blogs allow average people and express their own thoughts for others to hear. Blogs have became the newest internet sensation, according to the Impact of blogs on mass media, the top 100 websites in the world 22 are blogs.

As blogs are convenient, a lot of them can be making false statements. As blogs aren't required to cite sources if expressing an opinion the people behind the computer can make up false information. According to Modern Media Writing's often times people running blogs use the same information from the same sources and possibly get information from unreliable sources.

Overall, blogs with reliable sources and the freedom of the writer to express their own thoughts makes for good connections between people over the internet.

  93. Blogging started as a social media platform that allowed users to voice their feelings, opinions, and ideas. The impact of blogs on mass media continues to grow through other social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat.

According to Glass' spunkygadget article, more people have access to internet publishing rather than print publishing which allows for a democratized free speech. They further explain that because of the journalistic appearance of several blogs, it's easier for other individuals to express their thoughts over the blog's topic. If someone either disagrees or desires to express their personal commentary, all they have to do is write out a comment on the blog and hit 'Publish'.

Lots of companies utilize blogs to advertise or elaborate on their products and/or services. It allows for consumers to learn more about the company and their trademarks. The convenience of this platform helps companies connect with their targeted audience in a way that is both casual and professional.

Blogs allow people worldwide to connect and express their opinions and ideas. It allows for a diverse environment in which people can post their casual journalism on a platform that continues to grow to this day.

Blogging is its own form of social media in itself. It seems like it can be so much more personal than Facebook, Twitter, or snapchat just because it gives people the outlet to really explore their writing and strengthen their skills. It is a different form of journalism as far as formatting and targeting an audience goes, compared to a newspaper or a magazine.

In chapter 10, in the section about ‘Good Journalism Is Still Good Journalism’ it discusses what is expected for web writing like blogs and how it is still journalism, just maybe in a different form.

Web journalism definitely takes a different kind of journalist and their own way of writing. The media is forever always changing and trying to keep up with it while also keeping an audience engaged is an art in itself that not everyone has.

  95. Converting traditional newswriting to an online publication has some differences but is mainly the same. Things like writing concisely, using attractive headlines, and using the inverted pyramid remain consistent in web writing. Web writing involves different techniques but it also allows for an expanded ability to communicate with readers. Using HTML allows bloggers to do things like: link to other articles, create opinion polls within articles, or create a map that interacts with the reader’s mouse and links them to related videos or articles.

Rather than looking to the mainstream news for information, many turn to a more trusted private source, like a blog. People may also keep tabs on the bigger news outlets but also might read blogs in order to weigh other opinions.

With more and more people using the internet for their information, it is imperative for us as news distributors to leverage the publicity. This may prove to be difficult because the internet allows for anyone and everyone with an internet connection to start a webpage.

According to http://spunkygidget.com/2007/06/07/the-impact-of-blogs-on-mass-media/, “The leading blog search engine, Technorati.com, reports in their “The State of the Live Web” (April 2007) that they are tracking 70 million weblogs with approximately 120,000 new ones being created each day factoring out to about 1.4 new blogs every second”.

  96. Blogging is allowing people to write out their thoughts on things and publish it throughout the media. It lets them express themselves to anybody who is willing to invest their time into the blog. According to Glass' spunkygadget article, blogs are journals, not sites. They are written, not built. The best ones have a heart that beats daily or faster.

Blogs don't just have an impact on people, but businesses too. The website "engadget" impacts Apple products like the iPhone and Mac's. Apple suffered a devastating four billion dollars from the "AppleGate" blog.

Blogs influence people whether it's in a good way or a bad way. But good or bad, blogs continue to make connections with people in social media.

  97. Blogging can be done about absolutely anything, by anyone, any time they want; and I think that is a powerful tool for everyone to utilize. Blogging can even be done in different styles, whether it's online, printed, or a vlog; there is a style for everyone. That being said, everyone has to think about what they say before they say it because if word gets around, it can have a big impact. According to http://spunkygidget.com/2007/06/07/the-impact-of-blogs-on-mass-media/, a popular technology blog called Engadget, reported that some of Apple's new technology would not be released for several months, which caused Apple's capital to lose around four billion dollars. This is an example of how a blog can impact a company.

Blogging can also just be a fun activity people do just to show people what their life is like. Vlogging is a very popular way that people will show their daily life off to the world. It is as simple as having a camera and a computer. No matter what way someone chooses to blog or what they choose to blog about, according to chapter 10, blogging is journalism just in a different form.

  98. If the internet is an ethereal forest full of arcane knowledge then blogging is a vast wealth of compiled deep, personal thoughts and feelings covering a myriad of topics and readers are endowed with a magical ability that allows them to conjure an assortment of these files in the genre of their choosing. A person can enter a plane of existence in which countless opinions, feelings, or thoughts can be backed up by hundreds of other accounts backing their prerogative, regardless of the logical truthfulness or morality of their ideas.

The article states a few cases where a blog has deeply impacted the world and one might derive from this that, with the power of influence, regardless of how minuscule in measure, they ought to be careful of what they put on the internet even behind any perceived smoke screen of anonymity.

Just as in the real world, on the internet, a person acts in control of an agenda. Some of these pursuits are perfectly mundane. An example would come from chapter ten in the book where a journalist writes a short entertainment column that becomes viral.

The agenda being acted on can be a morally sound one, or one with potentially harmful outcomes. It’s up to each person within their right to choose for themselves what kind of ends they will pursue. The internet, after-all, is not a magical dual universe in which no one is accountable for the ends they pursue, but a very real fountain of knowledge that people consult to learn from.

  99. Blogging has becoming an increasingly popular way to communicate thoughts, ideas, and even stories. I think that blogs have become so popular because the internet is so easily accessible and most people tend to use it on a daily basis. According to http://spunkygidget.com/2007/06/07/the-impact-of-blogs-on-mass-media/, people are now able to respond to news events and comment their opinions on news and stories through blogging. The idea of "freedom of speech" comes to mind when thinking of blogging in that so many people are able to write their opinions into a blog post and share it with others who may or may not have the same opinion. That's what makes blogging so important: the idea that people can share thoughts and ideas so easily with mass amounts of others!

Blogging can be opinionated, informative, or just a fun post! Many of my friends have blogs about their lives, giving updates to friends and family about their life endeavors. I also watch a Youtuber named grav3yardgirl who creates vlogs. Video logs, or blogs, are also a great way to shares opinions and thoughts on a certain subject.

Just like Chapter 10 tells us: blogs are online journals. Blogging is inherently considered journalism!

  100. I think blogging is a nice and reliable way for everyone to see what are your thoughts. Blogging can be for people that even like printing blogs. With that being said, I feel like we all would have to think more about what we say before we say it because word can get twisted around. According to http://spunkygidget.com/2007/06/07/the-impact-of-blogs-on-mass-media/, there this technology by the name of Engadget, it showed reports of that their some of Apple's technology that didn’t even have reach any stores. With that being said Apple will be loosing nearly 4 billion dollars.

Blogs help people connect worldwide so we can write or type our ideas on certain topic. Blogging also can be like a stressful thing or even interesting to people. Blogging is very simple just have your computer ready to go. So what I can mainly say is that blogging is nothing but a journalism.
